Scholar's Lab


About

A service of the Richardson Library Information Commons, the Scholar's Lab is a specialized computing space designed to promote collaboration and experimentation with digital content and services across academic disciplines.

The Scholar's Lab supports advanced DePaul student and faculty research through high powered, flexible, computing devices, equipment, and software, open lab hours that include nights and weekends throughout the academic year, informal and formal events, and opportunities for collaborative research, project design, and teaching.

The Scholar's Lab is available for use as an open, informal or formal meeting and workshop space by the following members of the DePaul Community:

  • Faculty
  • Staff

Equipment

media:scape Collaboration Tables

The Scholar's Lab is equipped with 6 media:scape tables designed to facilitate collaborative research and learning.   Each media:scape collaboration table in the Scholar's Lab offers the following:
  • Up to 5 seats per table with a single 42" monitor for shared viewing
  • 2 high-powered resident computers, one Windows OS and one Mac OS
  • Users may plug in their own devices to the tables such as laptops and tablets, up to 5 devices at a time 
  • An overhead projector, screen, and instructor's podium with computer or laptop plugin is also available for large group learning purposes.

​Print-Scan

  • One oversized plotter printer  is located in the Scholar's Lab for poster printing​
  • 6 oversized, full color Epson 11000xl scanners for graphic arts and digitization work are attached to Mac computers in the Scholar's Lab.

Software

The Library collaborates with DePaul University Information Services (IS) and various University departments and centers to provide a wide range of software used for teaching and learning purposes.
A list of software currently available on library lab and classroom computers is available from the IS Software for Lab and PC Classroom Computers page.
