DePaul has a rich collection of DVD content, with over 6,000 titles in this format available for our users. DVDs are the preferred physical format for adding film content to the Library's collection, as the Library does not have equipment to play Blue-Ray content and technology for playing VHS tapes is becoming obsolete.

VHS tapes identified by library staff and faculty as having continuing value, based on circulation statistics, nature of the content or expected future use, will be replaced by DVDs when this format is available and will be maintained in the collection in VHS format if a DVD version is not available.

In terms of viewing VHS content, the Library plans to maintain the existing dual VHS/DVD players in both the John T. Richardson library and the Loop library. If you are a faculty member who wishes to show VHS content in your classroom, please request a VHS player by filling out and submitting IS's Technology Request form.

If you are a faculty member and you would like to suggest a purchase for the overall collection, please contact your liaison librarian. To request a DVD for reserves for a class, please submit a request via the Ares Courses form.
